Lyazid Laggoune, owner of Laggoune Design, was born in the town of Setif in
northern Algeria. Ever since childhood he loved to draw and when it came to choosing
a profession, was naturally attracted to one that would enable him to continue his
drawing. At the age of 18, he therefore made the choice to study at the Institute of
Technology in the capital of Algiers, a school famous for its excellent internationally
acknowledged education and well known in all African and Mediterranean countries.
After graduation Lyazid had numerous opportunities to work in team with the best
architects and engineers of his home country. Gaining practical, working knowledge of
the latest advances in the field and team working with professionals skilled in all aspects
of architecture and building construction for many years, (specializing in the method of
choice in Algeria;reinforced concrete) inspired him to also learn architecture. As a result
he has done many projects utilizing this skill as well. During travels in Scandinavia and
as a resident of Finland for 8 years, he felt himself drawn to the qualities of thoughtful,
practical, humanitarian design and the simplicity of the Scandinavian design style.
When the computer became the tool of choice for the industry, Lyazid added to his
skills a working knowledge of AutoCad. Today, the computer is his primary tool and he
has now also added another great new software for rendering and design, SketchUp,
as part of his toolkit. With these tools he is exited to continue to develop his skills as a
designer and technical drafter, and to serve the building industry now and into the
future.
After being involved within this field for many years Lyazid now sees the need for a
direction, where a heightened responsibility towards our environment and the main-
tenance of health for people is becoming crucial. Research into other methods, such
as compressed earthblock, promises new and exiting opportunities!
